Two Signs Your Hot Tub Is Making Your Skin Crawl

Posted on: 5 August 2020

Sliding into a hot tub relieves stress at the end of a hard day. But, without regular care and maintenance, the water inside a hot tub quickly becomes something that may make your skin itch. As a hot tub owner who has not used it in a while, you must recognize signs your tub needs a thorough clean and service before you expose your skin to unhealthy elements. These two obvious signs are indications your hot tub could make you sick.

Smelly Water

Any odor coming from the water in a hot tub is an instant indicator to step away from it. Hot tubs contain hot water and these become a breeding ground for germs and parasites if the water is not regularly treated with chemicals to keep it clean. Because of the heat of the water, chemicals need to be regularly topped up as they get neutralized more quickly by hot water than swimming pool chemicals do in cold water. A funky odor coming from water in the hot tub means that something is growing within the water which could make you ill. The only way to fully treat contaminated water is to empty it from the hot tub and replace it with freshly treated water. This must be done by a professional so that water contained within the tub's plumbing system is fully removed also.

Slimy Water

Water which has algae growing in it makes the sides of the hot tub feel slimy. This contaminated water also shows discoloration and has an oily film floating on top of it. Again, algae can only be kept at bay if the water if treated regularly with chemicals. Algae-tainted water needs to be removed and the inside of the hot tub needs to be scrubbed cleaned to remove all spores which are sticking to the side of the tub. Algae can also grow inside the filtration and pump system of the tub so these need careful cleaning too.

Hot tub rash, also known as pseudomonas aeruginosa, causes a painful rash to appear on the skin. It is treatable with antibiotics but rather than suffer the pain of this problem, have your hot tub contractor give it a thorough clean and inspection before you use it again. By taking this step you can be sure that your hot tub will soak your cares away rather than adding extra health issues to your life.

We Got Our Inground Pool and Couldn’t Be Happier

Hello. Thank you for stopping by my blog. My name is Jane Seagal. My husband Larry and I have wanted an inground pool for a long time, but we didn’t see how it would be possible. We live on a hill. We have over five acres, so plenty of room. We just didn’t see how it would be possible on the sloop. Not until we had a pool contractor come out and talk with us. We now have the most amazing yard, with a pool! I never imagined how lovely our yard could be. I’m excited to share about the transformation we have witnessed. I’m going to tell you all about our pool and spa! If you are concerned as to whether or not a pool would work in your yard, I hope what I have to share will be of help.
