What Nonstructural Pool Upgrades Should You Make?

Posted on: 2 September 2022

Now that summer's over, you may plan to shut down your swimming pool soon. Before you shut down your pool, go ahead and make a few nonstructural upgrades to it. Nonstructural upgrades are things you can do to make your pool look and feel safer and more attractive next year. Below are some nonstructural pool upgrades you can do today.

Clean Your Pool Deck

One of the things you might consider doing before you shut down your pool is clean its deck. If your pool stays busy throughout the summer, the deck may not look as clean or sanitized as it should. Even concrete pool decks can become dirty during the summer.

Before you clean your pool deck, take a moment to inspect it. If the deck seems relatively clean, you can probably clean it yourself. But if dirt, grime, mildew, or even mold covers large areas of your pool deck, contact a pool contractor and allow them to clean the deck for you.

A pool contractor will need to use the appropriate cleaning supplies for your deck. For example, if your pool comes with a concrete deck, a contractor may use a power washer to remove the debris from it. Although a power washer is strong enough to break down dirt and other debris, the equipment won't damage the delicate surface of your deck. You may want to have a contractor clean your deck annually to keep it looking clean and organized.

After a contractor cleans your deck, they may recommend you replace your pool's safety cover next.

Replace Your Safety Cover

You may already plan to place a safety cover over your pool when you shut it down soon. Safety covers keep children, pets, and even debris out of the pool during the rest of the year. But if your safety cover is old, outdated, or not sound enough to prevent accidents, it may be time to purchase a new cover.

A pool contractor may offer a wide selection of more advanced pool safety covers to you. Some of the newer safety covers come with automatic controls, push buttons, and other features that make them easier to use. The features control when and how the covers open and close during the year, including during the summer.

If you choose to purchase a new cover for your pool, ask a contractor to install the device for you. A contractor can ensure the cover fits securely in place after installation. If you need assistance in operating your cover, ask a contractor to instruct you on how to do so.

We Got Our Inground Pool and Couldn’t Be Happier

Hello. Thank you for stopping by my blog. My name is Jane Seagal. My husband Larry and I have wanted an inground pool for a long time, but we didn’t see how it would be possible. We live on a hill. We have over five acres, so plenty of room. We just didn’t see how it would be possible on the sloop. Not until we had a pool contractor come out and talk with us. We now have the most amazing yard, with a pool! I never imagined how lovely our yard could be. I’m excited to share about the transformation we have witnessed. I’m going to tell you all about our pool and spa! If you are concerned as to whether or not a pool would work in your yard, I hope what I have to share will be of help.
